It's a New Year!

2023 is up and running in kindergarten! We all came back well rested and ready to go!  In the past two weeks we have:  added 4 new word wall words to our list, learned 2 new stories to add to our book boxes, started practicing number equations through story problems, written about "things we are interested in" and "things we observed outside", learned a new poem and finally...had wonderful conversations about Martin Luther King Jr. and his purpose.  That is quite a list!

At this point in kindergarten it is amazing to see the shift in learning.  I am seeing 17 excited learners who are truly motivated to "do more."  It may be adding an extra sentence to their writing, reading 5 minutes more or proudly sharing their number of math equations that they worked on independently. As I continue to send home copies of stories or word wall lists, please spend no more than 10 minutes with your child listening to their reading.  If you notice your child hesitating or getting overwhelmed with the task, you can ask them if they want to "echo read" with you.  This is when you read the sentence or word and they echo your reading.  Always encourage your child to point to the words as they are reading.

I made an error in the dates for bowling outing. We are  heading over to Junction Bowl on Monday, January 30th and Monday, February 6th.  If you haven't provided your child's shoe size for bowling , please do so as I need to pass this information on to Mr. Fortier.

Please enjoy the pictures below.  They are great snapshots of what we've been up to in the past 2 weeks.  I would love for your child to talk to you about these pictures as well!

Have a great week ahead!  ☃️

Believe it or not, this picture had to do with a lesson about Martin Luther King Jr..  Please ask your child about it!
